Your coffee doesn’t need a perfectly curated mug to be special. That sip is still warm, still comforting, still a little moment of peace in your day. ☕💛

We don’t always need the “next new thing.” Sometimes the old crazed mug, the worn in sweater, the quiet morning—that’s where the sweetest contentment lives. 🌿

💬 Tell me — what’s your “crazed mug” in life? The simple, imperfect thing that still makes you smile?

My rude rooster is looking a whole lot less intimidating these days!
I didn’t want to go today. I had so much to do—wor I didn’t want to go today.
I had so much to do—work waiting at home, house chores piling up, lessons we needed to get through for homeschool… the to-do list was loud and endless.

But we all needed a pause.
So I closed the laptop, left the laundry, packed the snacks, and we went.

And I’m so glad we did.

Sometimes the most important “work” we do isn’t what’s on our list—it’s the memories, the fresh air, the laughter, the reset our souls are craving.

Here’s your reminder, mama: you don’t have to earn rest, joy, or play.
🌿 Sometimes saying yes to the pause is exactly what everyone needs.

I'm trying to learn to really love homemaking, and I'm trying to learn to really love homemaking, and sometimes a quick little DIY helps you to enjoy being in your space a little more, so I hit the light switch plate that's been in the junk drawer for 2 years with a little rub-n-buff magic. Smoky, savory, and a little bit magical- the perfect coffee rub recipe for ribs, roasts, and more.

Jump to Recipe

There’s something so immensely satisfying about mixing up your own spice blends from scratch- especially one that smells this good. The rich aroma of ground coffee mingling with smoked paprika, garlic, and pepper just feels like cozy kitchen alchemy.

And this Homemade Coffee Rub is one of those recipes I always keep on hand in my spice cabinet. I quadrupled the recipe the last time I made it and tucked it into a small mason jar so it’s ready for busy weeknights or Sunday roasts. Since then, I’ve used it on pork ribs, braised beef short ribs, and even a coffee-crusted prime rib (all recipes coming soon!)- and every time, it’s been absolutely fantastic.

Why You’ll Love This Coffee Rub Recipe

Rich flavor: The coffee brings out the natural depth of the meat without tasting bitter.

Perfectly balanced: A hint of sweetness, a little smoke, and savory spices that don’t overpower.

Versatile: It works beautifully on pork, beef, chicken, or even roasted veggies.

Make-ahead friendly: Store a batch in a mason jar for up to six months- it’s your secret weapon for quick, flavorful meals.

Gift-worthy: Add a small jar wrapped with a pretty ribbon to a homemade Christmas or hostess gift basket for a cozy, thoughtful touch.

The Best Coffee Rub Recipe

Smoky, savory, and a little bit magical- the perfect rub for ribs, roasts, and more.

Ingredients

  • 2 TBSP Ground Coffee
  • 1 TBSP Sugar I used an allulose/monk fruit blend to keep it keto/low carb
  • 1 TBSP Garlic Powder
  • 1 TBSP Smoked Paprika
  • 1 TBSP Salt
  • 1 TBSP Pepper
  • 1 tsp Chili Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cocoa
  • 1 tsp Ground Mustard
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisked together all ingredients until well combined.
  • Transfer to a clean Mason jar or airtight container.
  • Store in a cool, dry place for up to six months.
  • Use generously on ribs, roasts, or grilled meats for smoky, rich flavor.

Tip: If you plan to store it, double or qudruple the batch. Mix everything together, transfer to a small mason jar, and label it. I like to keep mine near my stove where I can sprinkle it on meats before searing or roasting.

How to Use This Coffee Rub Recipe

This rub works on almost anything savory:

  • Massage generously onto pork ribs before baking or grilling.
  • Rub it into beef short ribs before braising- it forms a rich, dark crust.
  • Coat a prime rib with it before roasting for a restaurant-worthy finish.
  • Sprinkle a little over roasted potatoes or grilled mushrooms for smoky depth.

Bonus tip: When you cook with it, save your pan drippings! The juices from my coffee-rubbed pork ribs made the most flavorful base for a white bean soup the next day. (Recipe coming soon!)

Storage

Store in an airtight container or small mason jar in a cool, dry spot for up to 6 months. Shake before using to redistribute the spices.

Gift Idea

This rub makes such a cozy, thoughtful addition to a homemade gift basket- perfect for the holidays, housewarmings, or hostess gifts.

Pair it with:

  • A small wooden spoon or spice scoop
  • A jar of your favorite glaze or BBQ sauce
  • A linen tea towel and handwritten recipe card

Tuck everything into a basket or gift box, and you’ve got a simple but heartfelt homemade present that feels pure farmhouse charm.

Coming Soon

Stay tuned for the full recipes that use this coffee rub recipe:

  • Coffee-Rubbed Oven Ribs with Honey-Mustard Glaze
  • Braised Beef Short Ribs
  • Coffee-Rubbed Prime Rib Roast
