Homesteading keeps you humble.

I know I'm not the only one whose chickens do this. 😅

Maple and Persephone were feeling extra curious (and maybe a little camera shy 😆).

As a new shepherdess, I’m learning all the little ways to keep my flock healthy- like doing routine FAMACHA checks to make sure everyone is thriving. This little one was perfectly healthy, just a reminder that loving your animals means learning and growing alongside them.

Spring (mud and) showers are coming, and it’s the perfect time to stay on top of flock care!

Charlotte’s Web Themed First Birthday Party: A Sweet & Simple Celebration

March 5, 2025

Charlotte's Web First Birthday Cake

When our little Josephine turned one, I wanted to create a sweet, low-key birthday celebration that was fun, colorful, and had a touch of vintage charm. Since she’s our little farm girl, a Charlotte’s Web themed First Birthday felt like the perfect fit! I pulled inspiration from the State Fair portion of the story, incorporating simple, homemade details that made the day feel special without being over-the-top.

So if you’re looking for a simple yet thoughtful way to celebrate your baby’s first birthday, here’s how we pulled off this Charlotte’s Web-inspired party with DIY decorations, homemade treats, and a cozy, old-fashioned feel.

Charlotte’s Web Themed First Birthday Party Decorations

I wanted the party to feel whimsical and nostalgic, so I kept the decorations simple, colorful, and homemade.

DIY Highchair Banner

Charlotte's Web Birthday Banner

For Josie’s smash cake moment, I made a highchair banner with ribbons and fabric for a soft, textured look:

Charlotte's Web Themed First Birthday Banner
  • Blue gingham ribbon
  • Lace ribbon
  • Thick pink ribbon
  • Slimmer ribbons in yellow, aqua, and purple
  • Pompom trim for extra texture (this added a lot of interest!)

The centerpiece of the banner was three gingham pennants spelling out “ONE,” with a tiny spider hanging from the “O” to represent Charlotte.

Homemade Pennant Banners

Next, I designed and printed pendant banners in different gingham and checkered patterns to hang throughout the party space, creating a festive but timeless feel.

Bulletin Board Party Backdrop

Charlotte's Web First Birthday Party

We have a bulletin board in our dining area for homeschooling, and I turned it into a Charlotte’s Web party display with:

✔️ A printed barn illustration with a little spider web detail
✔️ A cut-out sign reading “This little piggy is ONE” with a web accent
✔️ More printed gingham pennant banners lining the top

Charlotte's Web Birthday Signs

Fun Party Signs

Also adding story-inspired signs was an easy way to tie in the theme:

Some Punch Sign
  • “Some Punch” with a web design next to the drink station
  • “Some Birthday” on the bulletin board
  • A “Smorgasbord” sign featuring the rat from the book by the food table

These little details brought the theme to life without feeling overly staged!

The Food: A Simple, Nostalgic Party Spread

Since I wanted an old-fashioned birthday party feel, I kept the menu simple but abundant, with plenty of classic, easy-to-eat snacks.

Main Food Table

  • Crackers, meats & cheeses (pepperoni, salami, summer sausage)
  • Veggies & dip (baby carrots & celery with ranch)
  • Fruits (strawberries & grapes)
  • Chicken nuggets & mini corn dogs (kid-friendly & easy to serve)
  • Buffalo chicken dip (for the adults!)

Charlotte’s Web-Inspired Sweets Table

Charlotte's Web First Birthday Sweets Table
  • Browned Butter Funfetti Cake – I used a cake mix hack to make it taste homemade (extra egg, milk instead of water, browned butter, almond extract, and Greek yogurt).
  • Homemade Pink Marshmallow Buttercream – Tinted naturally with beetroot powder and topped with rainbow sprinkles.
  • DIY Cake Toppers – Designed in Canva, including a pennant banner with Josephine’s name and cute farm animal cutouts in party hats.
  • Smash Cake – A coordinating mini cake with sprinkles and a number 1 candle.
  • Rice Krispie Treat Hay Bales – A fun farm-themed touch.
  • Cotton Candy Bags – I decorated white paper bags with decorative scissors to hold fluffy cotton candy. (Next time, I’ll store them in sealed baggies to prevent humidity from shrinking them!)

Piggy Punch (A Fun & Sweet Party Drink!)

I love pulling out a crystal pinch bowl that was passed down from my husband’s grandparents for birthdays. So this year, I made a pink Piggy Punch using:

  • 1 bottle white cranberry strawberry juice
  • 1 liter lemon-lime soda
  • Scoops of vanilla ice cream on top

It was super sweet, bubbly, and a hit with the kids!

Final Thoughts: A Simple, Sweet Charlotte’s Web Themed First Birthday

This Charlotte’s Web themed first birthday party was simple, homemade, and full of love, just the way I wanted it. It wasn’t overly curated or fancy—just a joyful, colorful, and cozy celebration for our Josie Jo.

And I love that I was able to use homemade decorations, easy food, and a little creativity to bring the theme to life without spending a ton of money or time.

So if you’re planning a storybook-themed first birthday, I highly recommend a Charlotte’s Web party—it’s classic, nostalgic, and perfect for a sweet little one turning ONE!
